Bridges At Toko-Ri" By James A. Michener
The Bridges at Toko Ri tells the story of Harry Brubaker who is an American Naval Pilot who is called back from the reserves to serve on an American aircraft carrier stationed to fight in the Korean War. Brubaker forms close bonds with his the other navy men who serve on the aircraft carrier including: the Admiral who thinks of Harry as a son, Mike Forney and Nestor Gamidge who save Harry from a crash landing in the sea, and Beer Barrel who is the landing specialist charged with landing the jets safely on the carrier. Harry Brubaker at first resents being called back to war and misses his family desperately, but ultimately chooses to fight and die with the men who have become his war brothers.
